Latest News NHRA - Dixon, Beckman, Line, Hines winners in Norwalk
Larry Dixon gets his fourth win of the season in Top Fuel to moving him into second place in the points standings. Fast Jack Beckman got the perfect gift for his 43rd birthday, a final-round win, moving him into fourth place in the standings. This is makes eights wins for Jack this season. Bob Tasca III smoked the tires, but Beckman's .001 reaction time would have taken the holeshot win, once again its "Fast Jack". Jason Line took the ProStock win for his track sponsor Summit Racing Equipment by racing his Pontiac to his 38th Pro Stock final and fourth of the season. Hines and Krawiec overcame the 20-pound weight increase put on their machines three races ago. The Screamin’ Eagle Harley teammates met up in the final after qualifying 1 and 3. Lend America Funny Car driver Terry Haddock claimed the 2008 IHRA Nitro Funny Car world championship Sunday by defeating rookie Matt Hagan in the first round of eliminations at the 13th annual IHRA World Finals at Rockingham Dragway. “Winning the world championship hasn’t really hit me yet — I’ll probably be able to think about it tomorrow, but for now, I’m just kind of numb. We are deeply saddened with the loss of Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta, 46, who died Saturday after a high-speed racing accident during qualifying at the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals. We offer our condolences to his wife, Kathy, sons Colin and Corey, his cousin Doug, and his father Connie. Scott was a successful driver, a good person and a great father to his kids. Terry Haddock in the Race Girl sponsored funny car (far lane) clinched his second career Ironman with a win over Steven Macklyn in the Nitro Funny Car final. Haddock ran a 5.104 ET to take out current Knoll Gas Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Funny Car points leader Dale Creasy Jr. in the final round. Drag racing came about from the dry lake bead racing at Bonneville. Today Bonneville is the place to break land speed records for many categories of vehichles. Organized drag racing started in April 1949 in Goleta California on a strip of road on the local airport property. Locals had used this road for racing each other, but this event was organized with a couple top dry lakes racers named Tom Cobbs and Fran Hernandez. Since then the sport has grown and spread into many organizations.
